The forward-looking theme of the conference – Beyond the Hive: Beekeeping and Global Challenges aims to strengthen our cooperation with the United Nations. The historic act of recognizing of the western honey bees or European honey bees (Apis mellifera) as the species under threat of extinction was also signed in Kyiv.

The congress promised to be the largest international industry event in Ukraine’s history. It was the third in scope of events in Ukraine, after the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and the European Football Championship in 2012.

Apimondia 2013 was organised by representatives of Apimondia, the Beekeepers’ Brotherhood of Ukraine and the Beekeepers Union of Ukraine, with the Director of Ukrainian Agricultural Products Quality and Safety Laboratory, Director of the International Exhibition Center and the Director of the tourism agency Terra Incognita.
