The Apimondia Working Group on Good Veterinary Practice and Apiculture (GVPA), under the Apimondia Bee Health Scientific Commission, wishes to raise urgent awareness about the spread of the Tropilaelaps mercedesae mite recently reported in Western Russia and the Caucasus region (Janashia et al., 2024).
This alert is addressed to the European Commission, EU Member States, and all competent veterinary and beekeeping authorities, as the potential introduction of this parasite to the European Union poses a serious threat to honey bee health and apiculture.
